 Pioneer Community Club LTD came about quite by chance in 2004. The foundations were laid when Pioneer Health & Fitness Studio conducted boxing sessions within the gym (Pioneer Health Studio), primarily for youngsters aged 7 and upwards. When these started to become popular the sessions were extended to 4 sessions a week. As time passed the sessions became popular through the summer holidays when kids were off school and were looking for something to do rather than hang around the streets. New equipment was required and a national lottery grant was awarded to buy it. As a direct result of this several ideas were put forward to do more activities for local kids in the community and pioneer community club was born. Cheerleading, basic computer courses, gentle exercise for the elderly, football skills, were all greeted with enthusiasm by the local citizens of Bacup. More funding was secured from other sources, more specialized kit was bought and the community club went from strength to strength till it reached today’s level of diversity.
